Mixing "Cool" Colors

Today was supposed to be slightly warmer than yesterday so I decided not to bring an additional coat to school with me.  Big mistake!  It turns out that 73 degrees and sunny is code for 62 degrees and windy.  Regardless of the fact that I spent the day slightly chilled, I really liked my outfit.  Again I turned to Pinterest for my inspiration.  I had seen the outfit below a few weeks ago when it was really cold and wanted to wait until it warmed up a bit to wear it (so I wouldn't have to cover it with a coat).  I love the way that the royal blue and Kelly green play off of each other, and I kept the rest of the outfit simple wearing all black.  What do you think of mixing together cool colors like blue and green?

Pinspired

Today I wanted a comfortable stylish teaching outfit.  The weather outside was supposed to be in the 60s and sunny so I didn't need to bundle up or anything.  I decided to use this opportunity to copy an outfit that I had pinned on Pinterest.

This was my second attempt at a black and brown combination, and I love how the cheetah print scarf brings both colors together to make it look like a cohesive outfit.  My attempt to recreate the outfit is pictured below:

Nude Camisole: Target (hand me down)
White Long Sleeve Tee: Wal Mart $8
Black Skinny Jeans: Vigoss via Marshalls $25.99

Today I used an animal print scarf to tie together a black and brown look?  What do you think about using animal print to complete an outfit?

Plum and Mustard?

Today was another day on which I had a meeting with a parent scheduled.  I always like to dress a bit more professionally when I know that I will be meeting with parents or colleagues.  I have been thinking about the color combination of mustard yellow and plum for a while now and decided to try out a professional look incorporating these two colors.  I paired a mustard top with my black blazer, gray plaid pants, and plum heels.  I really liked the outfit as a whole. It felt like a wintery color combination, while still feeling modern.  What do you think about combining mustard and plum?

Just Another Manic Monday...

Today was another crazy day after a whole week and weekend of craziness.  I decided that since I didn't have any parent meetings or anything like that planned I would go with a simple jean outfit.  I've always loved black and gray together so I decided on a black top with a gray cocoon sweater.  I added my trusty black boots and some accessories and was good to go.  The look I came up with is pictured below:

Black Tank: Target $8
Gray Sweater: Target $13.98
Jeans: Jessica Simpson via Marshalls $24.99
Boots: David Tate via DSW $95
Ring: Target $4.98
Earrings: BCBG via Ross $6 (for a set of three pairs)
Necklace: Lia Sophia $45 (with hostess credits)
Watch: Target $14.99

I almost forgot to mention that the storm that has swept through Southern California for the past few days left a chill in the air.  It was cold enough to need an additional jacket.  So I wore my new Element jacket.  The thinsulate material kept me nice and warm despite the cool temperatures.

Jacket: Element via Amazon $50

I spotted this jacket in a board shop in Mammoth and refused to pay the exorbitant amount they were asking.  Fortunately my best friend, the queen of bargain shopping found the same jacket for less than half!  It just came in the mail so I was eager to wear it.  And boy was I glad I did because I arrived at school to find the playground coated in snow!!!

Busy Busy Day

Today I had an extremely busy day.  I had plans this morning with an old friend from high school that I had to get up fairly early in the morning for.  And what a cold morning it was!  It rained off and on throughout the morning and I just couldn't seem to get warm.  Then I returned home for about two hours and tried to squeeze in some more grading.  Getting ready for report cards can be a pain in the neck!  After my short break, I was off to a family linner (lunch/dinner) at my cousin's house.  My cousin from Oklahoma was in town so it was great to visit with her for awhile.  After a few short hours, I was off to my third event of the night.  My friend moved to Hawaii in July and had returned home for a visit, so his parents threw him a BBQ in honor of his return.  Because of the variety of functions I was attending today, as well as the unpredictable nature of the weather today, I had to layer up.  I decided to go fairly simple, casual, and classic.  I wore skinny jeans with a black top and black boots.  I layered it with a patterned scarf and leather jacket.  The resulting look is below:

Black Tank: Target $8
Black Stretch Linen blouse: Marshalls $12.99
Jeans: Paige Denim via Marshalls $39.99
Boots: David Tate via DSW $95
Scarf: Marshalls $9.00
Jacket: Target $35
Watch: Target $14.99
Earrings: New York and Company $5
Ring: New York and Company $7

Today I went simple and classic because I had such a busy day.  What do you like to wear when your schedule gets hectic?

Kindergarten for a Day

Today I was scheduled to teach Saturday School.  At my school, we use an attendance recovery program to help students who have been absent make up the days, and to help the school earn back the money lost by student absences.  Because it is merely an attendance recovery, my principal has allowed us the freedom to make it fun for the students, while still being academic.  We teach multi-grade level (1st through 5th grade all in one room), and can choose our own curriculum.  Today we had teachers teaching dance, computers, art, and all about dinosaurs.  For this program we need to keep the kindergarteners in a separate class, and I am the kindergarten teacher for Saturday School.  I like doing kinder because it takes care of that feeling of missing the little kids (I taught 2nd grade for 5 years and still miss the little ones sometimes).  There's just something about a five-year-old telling you you're the best teacher ever...Anyway, because its Saturday and because its kinder, the dress code is more lax.  I knew I was going to be crawling around on the floor and passing out art supplies all morning so I went with a comfortable teaching outfit.  I also knew that my afternoon was going to consist of grading papers like a mad woman in preparation for report cards.  I decided to stick with my trusty cobalt blue, black, and white combination.  What would you wear to work with 25 five-year-olds for the day?

A Spot of Brightness on a Gloomy Day

Today was the second of five fore-casted rainy days.  Fortunately this storm is not a cold one so I don't have to bundle up as much.  I just need clothing that will keep me dry...so basically no skirts or sandals for the next week or so.  Because it was so gloomy outside, I wanted to wear something bright to offset the icky weather and keep my energy up for the day, so I decided on an all black outfit with a neon coral blazer.  I always get tons of compliments on this blazer when I wear it, but haven't found another way to wear it besides with all black.  Do you have any ideas?  How would you wear a neon coral blazer?

A Change in the Weather

Today my beautiful weather gave way to rain clouds.  It was going to be a little bit chilly so I went for a tweed blazer, jeans, and boots.  I've been liking the color combination of orange and brown lately so I paired an orange tee with the brown tweed.  The outfit was comfortable enough for a rainy day, while the blazer made the outfit appropriate for school.  The resulting outfit is below:

Tweed Blazer: Levis $60
Orange Tee: Green Envelope via TJ Maxx $16.99
Jeans: Target $13.98
Boots: Jessica Simpson via DSW $40
Ring: Lucky Brand via Ross $7.99

Earrings: Forever 21 $2.50
Belt: Target $16.99

Mixing it up...Black and Brown Style

Today was another beautiful day in Southern California.  I wanted to wear another dress, but it was a little chillier than it was yesterday.  For this reason I decided on a dress that I could easily wear with leggings and boots.  The dress I chose was a black and white striped number.  I wanted to add a little contrast to the outfit without wearing colors that were too bright, so I decided on a cognac brown color.  The resulting outfit is below:

Dress: Studio via Ross $12.99
Belt: free (came with a skirt I bought)
Black Leggings: Target $8
Boots: old internet purchase
Necklace: New York and Company $10
Earrings: Tommy Hilfiger $10
Watch: Michael Kors (gift)
Ring: Francesca's $7.99

Today I went with an outfit that mixed black and brown together.  What do you think about wearing black and brown together?  How would you wear it?

Copycat

Today was a beautiful day in sunny Southern California!  Finally the 72 degree winter weather I've come to expect.  I celebrated by wearing a skirt.  I have been dying to wear this skirt ever since I saw it.  I first saw it on another blog that I follow "J's Everyday Fashion" where she paired it with a navy top, black blazer, and boots.

Once I saw this post, I knew I had to have this skirt.  My best friend is the queen of finding good deals on cool stuff so I gave her the mission of finding this skirt.  I had just about given up all hope of finding it since I knew it had been clearanced out, when lo and behold, we found it on the clearance rack of The Limited in a mall I rarely visit.  I was ecstatic!  I didn't even care about the price, I marched right over to the sales desk to purchase it.  To my excitement, the sales lady told me it had been mismarked and would cost a mere $14.99!!!  Ever since that lovely December afternoon, I have been dying to wear my skirt, and today was the day.  I decided to pair the skirt with a navy blue top, blazer, and shoes, set off with gold accessories.  The result is below:

Navy Blazer: Charlotte Russe $25
Navy Tee: Tahari via Marshalls $10.99
Skirt: The Limited $14.99
Shoes: purchased in Paris, France (about $35)
Watch: Michael Kors (gift)
Ring: Francesca's $7.99
Earrings: Tommy Hilfiger via Nordstrom Rack $10

Today I wore a skirt that I had seen on someone else and fell in love.  Do you ever see an item that you become obsessed with?  What would you do to track it down?
