Maxxed Out

Today I was scheduled to attend a training at the district office.  Also the weather has been oppressively hot and humid in Southern California for the past few days.  I decided to wear a maxi dress because I wanted to be comfortable all day and still stay fairly cool.  The cream maxi dress with black stripes I wore was perfect for the day.  I was comfortable and I got a lot of compliments on the dress.  Would you wear a maxi dress for a casual work day?

Channeling Gwyneth

Today I decided that I wanted to try an outfit that was celebrity inspired.  Now, I happen to think that Gwyneth Paltrow is super classy and adorable.  I also think she has a simple, classic, and sophisticated style.  For this reason, I decided to use a photo I saw of her as my outfit inspiration for today.  I paired a white tee and black and white striped blazer with a green pencil skirt.  The basic idea is the same as Gwyneth's, but it was just too darn hot to wear pants today.  Do you ever see a celebrity pic and think "I could pull that off"?

Color Mix...Neon Edition

Today I was eager to wear a necklace a had ordered recently.  The necklace was a J Crew inspired multi-colored statement necklace.  I decided to pair a cobalt blue top with a chartreuse pencil skirt and my necklace.  I loved the brightness of the outfit, and it was extremely comfortable.  Do you like to pair bright colors?

Picture Day

Today was picture day at school.  I wanted to wear something classy, modern, and colorful.  I decided on cobalt blue because I like the color on me since I have blue eyes.  I thought it would work well for my yearbook photo.  The top I was wearing is actually a dress, but I liked it under the black pencil skirt.  I liked the color combination and I think it struck the right note for picture day.  Would you wear a dress under a skirt?

A Bad Case of the Stripes

Today was another rotation day so I knew I was going to be on my feet all day.  I decided to go with a striped pencil skirt, a blue top, and flats.  I liked the combination of pink, blue, and orange in the skirt.  It gave me several colors to mix up in the rest of the outfit.  I love prints with multiple colors since they add interest to an outfit and give you more possibilities for different ways to wear the piece.  What do you think about colorful prints?  Are they a staple in your closet?

Puppy Graduation Day!

Today was a big day for my puppy, Abby.  For the past six weeks I have been taking her to puppy training classes and today she was graduating!  I needed a comfortable outfit that would work well for playing with my puppy all day.  I decided to go with a tank top and jeans.  The outfit worked perfectly for graduation and for hanging out with my friend for the afternoon.  What do you like to wear on weekends?

Chevron Striped Shenanigans

Today I was planning on attending a family function so I wanted to look cute (my family are big picture takers) so I decided to wear a dress.  I didn't want to look too dressed up though so I paired it with a funky neon necklace and flip flops.  I liked the combination and it worked well for dinner with the family.  I have really been loving the chevron striped trend lately so I was happy to wear this simple chevron striped dress.  What do you think about chevron stripes?  Would you wear them?

Bubble Necklace Blues

Today I wore an outfit I have been planning since summer.  I saw the picture below early in the summer and thought to myself, "Self, you have all of those pieces.  And, self, this is a cute outfit."  So I plotted to sport this outfit once I went back to work.  I love the combination of different shades of blue.  The outfit seems preppy and put together...very teacher-y.  I loved the way the outfit came together and would definitely wear it again.

Just a Touch of Red

Today I wanted to wear something comfortable and cool because it was going to be in the 90s at work.  I decided on a jersey knit chevron striped skirt and peplum top.  Both were lightweight cotton, leaving me nice and cool for the day.  I felt like the outfit needed something, so I added a red teardrop statement necklace.  The pop of red was just the right touch.  What do you like to add when you feel like your outfit needs a little something extra?

The Statement Necklace Girl

Last night, on my way home after Back to School Night, I stopped in at Target to pick up some cleaning supplies. Naturally I had to wander through the clothing and accessories departments first.  I was so glad that I did because I happened to spot a statement necklace that I had been lusting after all summer.  Lo and behold it was on clearance!  When I got home, I immediately started planning outfits to match my new necklace.  The outfits below were two different versions of my favorite combinations.  I loved the eclectic mix of the necklace with a striped top and colored bottoms.  I ended up wearing the outfit on the right to work, but I'm keeping the other one in mind for a more casual outing.  Upon arriving at work, I received a lot of comments about my necklace from coworkers and students alike.  One third grade teacher came to my classroom this morning because she wanted to see what cute necklace I was wearing today.  Apparently I am becoming known as the statement necklace girl.  I guess there are worse things to be known for than my fashion sense.  Would you plan an outfit around a piece of jewelry you love?

Back to School Night

Today was set to be a long one.  Tonight was back to school night, and since I live about 45 minutes from my school, there was no way I could go home between the end of the school day and the beginning of the event.  I took advantage of the time in my classroom and got a bit more organized.  However, this also meant that I needed to wear something nice to school all day long.  I decided to go with a dress I had purchased this summer and a pair of moderately high heels (I brought flats as well...just in case).  The outfit was easy and looked nice.  Disclaimer: This photo was taken after a 12 hour work day and two hours in the car...I promise my hair started out looking better than this.  When I wear it again I think I'll add a necklace, but the necklace I had that matched seemed to make it a little too dressy for a school event.  What do you wear for back to school night or an important event at work?
